Intensive couples therapy · Secure video all over Texas
Two full days, instead of forty-five minutes a week.
Ordinary therapy can feel like tearing off a scab and then having to leave in forty-five minutes. Marathon therapy gives you the time to get all the way to the other side of what you started.
What we are working toward
Marathon therapy, sometimes called intensive therapy, is the same couples work I do every week, compressed into two consecutive days. The goal is not to cover more ground for its own sake. It is to give three things enough room to actually happen.
- Re-establishing connection. Finding your way back to each other, not just to a truce.
- Managing conflict. Learning what your fights are really about and what to do when one starts.
- Building shared meaning. Deciding together what this marriage is for.
Resentments form out of past events that were never fully processed. Two days is enough time to go back into one of those and come out the other side, together, in the same room.
Who this format fits
Often a good fit
- Busy couples who cannot protect a weekly hour
- Couples in a specific crisis that needs attention now
- Couples anywhere in Texas who are nowhere near a therapist who does this work
- Couples who have been through trauma together
- Couples who want depth rather than maintenance
Not the right tool when
- There is a past or current affair one partner is not willing to disclose
- There is active drug or alcohol addiction without a recovery program alongside it
- There has been serious violence, threats of it, or a real worry that it could happen
- Either partner is having suicidal or homicidal thoughts, or has seriously harmed themselves or someone else
- Either partner is living with untreated serious mental illness and could not stay with a two-day process
None of these mean the door is closed. They mean marathon therapy is the wrong first step, and we would talk about what the right one is.
What it asks of you, and what it gives back
You should know going in that this is demanding work. Couples often feel intense emotions across the two days, including anxiety, guilt, hopelessness, loneliness, and anger. Both of you will be asked to go back into experiences you would rather not revisit. That is the part that does the work.
What the format gives you in return is the thing a weekly hour cannot:
- Depth. Room to reach what a short session only gestures at.
- Continuity. You finish what you start instead of stopping mid-sentence and carrying it home for a week.
- Escalation managed as it happens. When a conflict flares, we have the time to work it through rather than contain it and reschedule.
- A new understanding of each other. My job is to help each of you experience yourself, and your partner, in a way you have not before.
How the two days are built
Every marathon is custom-made for the couple. We meet once first to see whether this is a fit, in both directions, and I design the plan around what I learn. Here is the blueprint that shapes most of them.
Two days on video is a real ask
Most marathons happen the way the rest of my practice does, over secure video, which means you can do this from wherever you are in Texas without booking travel. It is still a lot of screen time. If that sounds like too much for the two of you, say so when we talk and we will look at the options.
The fee
We agree on the fee in advance, before anything begins. Half is due before the individual assessments, and the balance is due when the therapy sessions start.
The fee is not for hours in the room alone. It also covers the planning done before we begin, giving and evaluating both assessments, reading and analyzing your answers, building a plan made for the two of you, and redesigning day two around what day one turned up.
I discuss fees directly rather than posting them, so we can talk about what your situation actually calls for. Send a note through the form below and I will go over it with you.
Tell me a little about where the two of you are.
You do not need the right words for this. A sentence is enough. Send a short note through my secure contact form and I will call you back so we can talk about whether a marathon makes sense for you.
